Do you need help with translation?
Working in the Russian part of the Barents region is usually an exciting and thrilling journey through an interesting part of a huge country. But sooner or later you run into a problem, or a challenge… The language!
No matter if you’re involved in business activities, culture events, discussions with administrations or planning for new project applications - there is almost always a need for translation and interpretation between Russian and English.
Knowledge of English, and willingness to use it, is becoming more and more common among people in Russia and the other Barents countries. In the Barents portal, we have chosen to work with English as the only common language. It’s a neutral language for the region and the knowledge increases very rapidly among thematic groups, business communities and of course among the younger generation. The English language has therefore the best chance to serve as a platform for an increased information and communication flow aiming at future development in the region.
Machine translations
In the Barents portal we use and recommend the translate.google.com service which at the moment provides quick and useful Russian-English-Russian translations. In parts of the portal there are links both to the original webpages in Russian and to an English translation by the Google translator. For example this website providing information on the Arkhangelsk region:
